About Us
Helping Hands Foundation Sierra Leone is a Community Based Organization (CBO) committed to improving the lives of women across Sierra Leone. Informed by our experience and deep local expertise, our work across Sierra Leone addresses five
overarching goals— empower women, expand economic opportunity, increase environmental resilience, and promote self reliance.
Headquartered in Freetown, The Helping Hands Foundation Sierra Leone works through its network of branches across the country.
Why choose 'Women Empowerment?
Current estimates from around the world suggest that as many as one in every three women have been beaten, forced to have sex, or abused; most often by someone she knows, such as her husband or another male family member.
Gender-based violence is a means of male power in control over women. It takes various forms, all of which reflect and reinforce the lack of equality women face in society no matter how old they are, to which class or culture they belong, or what income they have. It is a universal problem that damages women’s health and dignity, and reduces their sense of safety in their families and communities.
When we speak of empowerment, we mean a whole range of issues that this organization will deal with: from our understanding, and the experience we gained while working on this organization, we believe that everything starts with the power that women and girl have “within” them. For too long, and in too many places around the world, women have grown up believing that they are worth less than men. Having so in analyzed idea women are inferior, women sometimes tend to blame and put down other women and girls for what they have gone through. My fellow women, this is why our first step is dedicated to self-reflection and self-care.
Therefore, empowerment mean ‘helping and supporting women and it has to do with our social change.

To serve as an outreach for young women who need help in their lives to build character, take ownership in striving to pursue their dreams, and providing them the necessary skills.
Our aim is to continue to invest in women led and women centered ideas, to meet key stakeholders in this sector and advocate for systems changes that sharing our learning outcomes across the nation.

Our vision is to have a proud history of serving and elevating women voices and ideas. We have committed ourselves to finding a Women Center where all our women can have a safe place to develop positive relationships with others, find direction for their live and contribute positively to their communities.
